Another reason why I love being an American...

You know, there's a lot of things in my life that I'm not too proud of... I've done things that I wish I hadn't, and like all teenagers there are times that I "hate" my life. But there's also a lot of things about me that I wish I could change.

But living in the greatest country in the world with some of the greatest leaders in the world is not one of them.

I'm sure you've already heard about Presidents Bush's visit to the troops in Iraq on Thanksgiving, where he thanked them for the sacrifices they have made for their country and served them mashed potatoes.

What a guy, huh? Who knows, maybe I'm just a naive teenager who tries to see the best in people, but no one can deny that that was just an overall good thing to do.

How many U.S. Presidents had gone to Baghdad or any other country we've had troops in? Zero. Until now, that is. I mean, think of how many familes ate Thanksgiving this year minus one or more people due to the war. But that George Bush gave up Thanksgiving with HIS family to visit those who are making this world a better place... I think that is truly remarkable.

I hate those groups that look at a facist tyrannt who has killed thousands and pardon him, and then call Bush Hitler for liberating millions.

God Bless America

Just in case you're having trouble choosing your presidental candidate...

Can't keep up with all those dang presidental candidates? Having trouble distinguishing one Democrat from another? Then you need to visit Whack-a-Pol, where it helps chose your candidate for you!

Seriously though, this little elimination game was pretty cute, and, thankfully, George W. Bush is my best candidate, with the closest Democrat being Wesly Clark. Not that there was ever any doubt in the first place, but it's pretty cool, so check it out.

On a side note, happy Thanksgiving, and let us always remember how truly blessed we are to be Americans, living in the greatest nation on earth. Take care and God bless.

???

Okay sorry, there won't be a news post today, because honestly, I haven't seen anything that seems news-worthy today... sorry...

On a side note, if you don't live in this area, you won't know anything about this or even care, but for those reading this who live around here, congradulations to the Monahans High School football and volleyball teams on their district championships and the volleyball team on their area championship. Good luck to football as they compete for the bi-district championship on Friday and the volleyball team as they play for the regional quater-finals Tuesday in hopes of another trip to the state tournament... I'll be there cheering y'all on the whole time.

Okay now for you non-West Texans who don't care about high school sports, I'll be back tomorrow with some real news, but I wanted to make sure to get that out there. Have a great week!!!

Protestors fighting partial-birth abortion ban

Today I'm going to address a subject that I think is a very controversial subject and that I've been eager to discuss for a long time, but have been waiting to find out whether this would pass, and that issue is abortion.

From MSNBC news-
The legal attack against a new ban on so-called partial birth abortions escalated rapidly Thursday as federal judges in New York and California blocked the law, delivering a serious setback to President Bush only a day after he signed it.

First of all, I'm going to share MY opinions on abortion, even though some of them might be kind of confusing and may be a little bit different from what you would expect from a hard-core conservative.

In a political sense, I am both pro-life and pro-choice. I certainly do not believe abortion should be used as a method of birth control, nor do I believe it should be illegal. I do think it should be legal, but with restrictions.

This is why I think it is a confusing subject. I guess I would have to say that it needs to be looked at on a case-by-case basis, such as for health reasons, but I won't get too much into THAT subject today.

However, the line MUST be drawn at partial-birth abortion. I didn't really know very much about this "procedure" until the last few weeks, when it became a news item. But everytime that I see any information on how it is performed and such, it nauseates me to think of such a inhumane procedure. I can't even bring myself to type what goes on, but I don't think I need to.

So I think that abortion and all subjects connected with it will continue to be issues for a long time. If and when a definite decision is made about it, I believe it will be looked back at as one of the biggest decisions ever made by the Supreme Court.

Bush lacking support

More than four in 10 voters nationwide say they definitely plan to vote against President Bush next year — more than plan to vote for him, according to a poll released Tuesday.
The survey by Marist College’s Institute for Public Opinion found that 44 percent of the voters questioned said they planned to definitely vote against the Republican president while 38 percent said they would support his re-election.
An April survey from the Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based pollsters had found that 40 percent of voters nationwide planned to vote for Bush while 30 percent said they would vote against him.
The latest poll also found a drop in Bush’s approval rating, which has been reflected in other recent nationwide polls. The Marist poll had the president’s approval rating at 53 percent, down from 70 percent in its April poll.
In the new poll, voters were split on Bush’s handling of postwar Iraq and the economy.

16 PERCENT FOR DEAN

Among Democratic voters, there was no clear choice about who should be the party’s candidate. Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean led the way with 16 percent of Democratic voters backing him followed by Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut at 12 percent and Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri at 10 percent. The other Democratic contenders were all in single digits. One in three Democratic voters said they were undecided on who should be the party’s nominee.
In theoretical matchups against the Democrats, Bush led them all. Closest to the president — 48 percent to 43 percent — was Gephardt.

With the election in exactly one year, Bush better find a way to bump up those ratings. Of course, he'll always have my vote, even though I'll only by 17 next November. (I'll be 18 in December of 2004, but obviously that won't do any good then.)
But if we end up with Howard Dean as president (gag), I think I might just have to declare permanant residency in China... (just kidding... I hope it won't come to that). Until next time-
